In autumn of 2013, during the award ceremony of the Open professional printing competition “Sanat” representatives of UPM company Mr. Rauno Niemela and Mr. Alexander Borisov handed certificate for visiting UPM paper mill in Rauma to the winners in nomination “The best newspaper printed on coated paper”.
UPM paper mill opened its electronic gates to the winners of the “Sanat” competition – representatives of the printing houses: “Perviy polygraphicheskiy kombinat”, “Prime Print Moscow”, IPK “Tsaritsyn”.
Members of the Russian delegation got familiar with preparation processes of wood, paper base and production of the coated paper. Some of the world’s largest paper producing machines Nos. 1, 2 and 4 with total capacity of 1 million tons per year are currently operating at the mill. “All produced paper totally complies with the new philosophy of the company Biofore, - noted Vice President of UPM Paper Sales in Russia, Mr. Rauno Niemela, - because it is made of renewable and recyclable materials, with the most environmentally friendly technologies”. For loading production capacities 1,3 million tons of spruce wood and 165 thousand tons of cellulose are yearly supplied to the mill. Paper producing machines Nos. 1 and 4 produce light coated paper, including thin and standard sorts, machine No. 2 produces uncoated paper, soon it will start to produce the first trial line of the super-calendered paper with advanced blankness and wood pulp – UPM Smart, which is currently produced at UPM paper mill in Jamsankoski.
“I never visited our domestic paper mills and can not compare UPM, but I am strongly impressed by the size, organization and automation of the production, including supply of wood material, impeccable occupational health and safety compliance in all processes. My opinion is that printing industry is not dying, but going on a very obvious way, and I became absolutely sure of that having got familiar with the mill’s operation”, - said Executive Director of IPK “Tsaritsyn”, Mr. Fedor Tkachev in the end of the visit. And all members of the delegation agreed with the opinion of the most experienced printer.
